Synch is in a deep coma after taking a bad beating from two local thugs but his mutant power begins to synch with his teammates and snaps him out of it; After returning to the school, the M Twins explain their origins (hold on, kids, this gets tricky); In the past, Emplate approached his perfect sister, Monet, and asked her to take part in his world ruling schemes; Monet laughed him off; To teach her a lesson in humility, Emplate transformed her into the creature we know as Penance; Emplate and Monet's twin sisters sent him to an alternate dimension for his actions and Penance followed; Mourning the loss of their sister and in an effort to keep her close, the twins merged into one being that looked exactly like Monet.
