It's the Avengers' first annual east coast vs. west coast baseball game at Royals Stadium in Kansas City! The score is tied with Iron Man in the batter's box when suddenly Freedom Force appears! Hold on, Freedom Force sure looks a lot like the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants from Avengers Annual 10. And lo and behold, it is Mystique's old gang plus Spiral and the new Spider-Woman! Apparently Freedom Force works for the federal government now and wants to arrest the Avengers! But Earth's Mightiest Heroes aren't going quietly! In fact they aren't going at all! The blockbuster battle begins: eleven avengers vs. the Blob, Avalanche, Destiny, Pyro, Mystique, Spiral, and Spider-Woman! Unfortunately, Spiral's strange powers tip the battle in Freedom Force's favor! And the Avengers are transported to the Vault to stand trial in Peter Gyrich's kangaroo court! Shockingly, the ad hoc tribunal has damaging testimony from a former avenger! Wow, which avenger has betrayed his teammates? Once the Avengers break out of the Vault with Spider-Woman's help, they swear to find the traitor in their midst!
